Krista is both a violinist and violist residing in St Paul,
Minnesota. She and her husband Jeremy Swider (also a
violinist and violist), are featured annually on the Bluefin
Bay Concert Series in Tofte, Minnesota. Krista is the first
violinist in the String Quartet con Passione, a chamber
group that performs regularly in and around the Twin
Cities. Krista is also a listed expert on and frequent
contributor to an innovative and interactive teaching
website called ViolinLab.com. She studied both violin
performance and pedagogy with Andrzej Grabiec in the
Moore's School of Music at the University of Houston.
Graduating with honors, Krista completed a Bachelor in
Violin Performance and was awarded membership to Phi
Kappa Phi, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and
Golden Key National Honors Society. Besides studying
with Andrzej Grabiec, Krista has studied with Sally O’
Reilly, Aaron Janse, and Mary West, and has performed on
a master class given by Donald Weilerstein.
Krista has taught for seventeen years now and has a
thriving studio where she enjoys teaching varied age
groups violin, viola and/or chamber music. Krista is a
former faculty member at St Joseph’s School of Music in St
Paul, MN, Minnesota Valley Academy in Burnsville, MN, K
and S Conservatory in Woodbury, MN, and Sagemont
Centre for the Arts in Houston, TX.

Krista is a great teacher. I have studied violin with her since last
October. After seven monthes, I feel my playing improved a lot.
Krista always concentrates on helping me with one or two technics
at a time, over time, my playing techniques get built up and have
been improved without too much difficulties. She also made the
learning process being fun and relax, sometimes I came to lesson
with frustration of not being able to playing a piece very well, she
always points out the problem and find a way that works best for me
to practice and to improve it, her lesson is a relief for my
frustration. It is a great joy of seeing myself being able to play those
beatiful music and getting better and better. I feel so lucky to have
her as my teacher, I highly recommend her.

I'm an adult violin student, but have studied other instruments all of my
life. I've been with Krista since 2005. My first violin teacher was horrible; I
was going to drop violin lessons because of him. And then I found Krista! I
can't say enough good about her. Her goal is to share her knowledge and help
you be the best player that you can be. She spends as much time as it takes,
trying multiple approaches, until we figure out what is causing the problem.
She's very patient, and spends quite a bit of time thinking about possible
solutions. She has access to all kinds resources (technical, other musicians,
etc.) which she happily shares with all of us. I appreciate that Krista doesn't
just teach, she also performs in multiple groups, and is a sought after
clinician. Krista is very well studied, and very knowledgeable. But that's not
the important part; the important part is that she can communicate her
knowledge clearly to others, newbie or advanced, young or old. Most of
Krista's students have been with her for years, which says so much about her
personality and character. It's been so cool to watch the little ones unfold
over the years into vibrant musicians. I look at her two current star students
and think, "I knew you when you mostly squeeked and sqwauked....and look
at you now!". I would highly recommend Krista to anyone.
